Bandsaw Boxes

Here's a couple of bandsaw boxes I made for Xmas gifts. The wood is a 4x4 cedar post. I cut the shapes mostly following freehand sketches on the wood. I cut the overall outline, then sliced off the back. Next I cut out the drawers, then cut the front and back off the drawers. Finally I hollowed out the drawers. The inside of the drawers are flocked and the drawer pulls consist of some scrap wood for one and some wooden plugs for the other. They were finished off with a rubbed tung oil finish and some felt feet for the bottoms.
Cedar Soap Dish

These are soap dishes made from some cedar. I cut rabets along the width of the board and then narrower ones along the length. The depth of the rabets was just over half the thickness of the board. They form a nice pattern that way. They are finished with a brush on oil finish. So far, these stand up quite well to the wet soapy conditions. The soap is hand made from lye and oils by my wife.
Snoopy and Woodstock Mailbox Cover
Mailbox Cover
This is a mailbox cover I put together for our mailbox. Snoopy and the roof are 1/4" hardboard supported by 1x4 angles inside. Snoopy's ears are cut from an old bicycle inner tube. The assembly was then painted and clear coated. The black lines are made with a Sharpie pen.
