Reviews Intro

Tools

These reviews are based on stuff I've bought and used. I'd use them only as a guideline. Your experience almost certainly will be different from mine. I've found that all brands have their share of lemons. The drill press that I buy and you buy, even if they're the same brand and model, from the same store, may differ wildly in quality. You might buy a brand X tool and think it's crap, and I may buy the identical tool and think it's the greatest thing since warm bathrooms. In other words, don't blame me if your experience is different from mine. I'm not getting anything free from any company so my opinions are based on the specific tool I happen to acquire.

One thing I have noticed about tools is that the companies keep improving them. Which in many cases, means they're making them cheaper. My Craftsman tools of the 70s and 80s are a far cry from the usual Kmart/Craftsman junk I tend to see and buy now. This means that the stuff I bought and reviewed a few years ago is probably not the same tool you're going to buy tomorrow.

I don't go into a lot of details, since by the time you read my review, the product has probably changed. However, if I find problems or good points, I'll bring them up. Sometimes that kind of characteristic continues with a company line. Unfortunately, it seems like quality keeps going down, even for what were once good brands.

Dealers

I also have some reviews of dealers. These are both brick stores and the assorted mail-order and Internet based. Again, what I report are my experiences so keep that in mind. If I've only had one order from a company, I'll let you know, but if I've had several, I'll also spell that out.I think in general most stores try hard, but some unfortunately keep missing the mark.
